Salvatore Marino
? to Sept. 29, 1878.
Marino served as the leader of the Monreale, Sicily, based Stuppagghieri Mafia in the 1870s. He fled Sicily and established a base in New Orleans, where he organized a branch of the Stuppagghieri with help from the Matranga clan.

The Stuppagghieri (Stoppers) conducted a guerilla war on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean against the more conservative Giardinieri (Gardeners) Mafia.

Marino came down with a severe case of Yellow Fever in late summer of 1878. In September, while on his death bed, he asked an aide to destroy a number of sensitive documents. The aide kept the documents and later turned them over to Italian authorities. The papers described the nature of the Stuppagghieri and confirmed the Marino-Matranga leadership of the organization.
