About One Wal
One Wal is an independent editorial project about American Mafia history, the evidence used to document it, and the culture built around its telling.
Mara Ellison, lead editor
The persona provides a stable byline and voice. It does not claim a real person’s degree, journalism job, law-enforcement service, museum visit, interview, purchase, award, membership, residence, or field research.
Editorial specialties include twentieth-century American organized-crime history, courts and investigations, books and screen adaptations, museums, tours, and provenance questions around collectibles. The geographic connection is editorial: records and stories from New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Hot Springs, Kansas City, and other U.S. places are studied through published sources. No personal travel is implied.
The background is intentionally modest. Mara is described as a generalist history editor and research coordinator, not as a licensed professional or credentialed academic. Her writing favors short explanations, source labels, and firm boundaries between fact, allegation, dispute, folklore, and dramatization.
Editorial standards
Evidence before atmosphere
Government archives, court opinions, museum collections, established reporting, publishers, and specialist scholarship form the core record. Forums and customer reviews may help identify reader questions. They do not settle historical facts.
Allegations stay attributed
An indictment is not a conviction. A police file is not a verdict. A witness may be useful and interested at the same time. Living people, unresolved matters, and disputed claims receive cautious wording and direct attribution.
No borrowed experience
One Wal does not claim a book was read, a film watched, a product tested, or a place visited by a human reviewer unless that experience occurred and can be documented. Current launch articles compare published material and say so.
Crime without glamour
Organized crime caused fear, corruption, financial loss, injury, and death. Coverage may study the culture around criminal figures without turning violence or coercion into lifestyle decoration.
Source-verification process
- Define the claim and the record type needed to support it.
- Prefer a primary source for dates, legal outcomes, institutional actions, prices, hours, and product details.
- Cross-check consequential historical claims with an independent source.
- Label conflicts rather than forcing certainty.
- Recheck time-sensitive details immediately before publication.
- Record source scope and review date in the content pipeline.
Corrections policy
Send a specific correction to webmaster@onewal.com. Include the page, disputed sentence, and supporting source. Substantive corrections are reviewed against the record, applied promptly when warranted, and reflected in the updated date. Style disagreements are considered but may not produce a change.
Funding and independence
The launch site contains no live affiliate links, sponsored posts, ads, analytics, or paid rankings. Future commercial relationships must be disclosed near the affected content and on the disclosures page.
